Charles Bookcase
The Charles Bookcase was a commission project for a client, but I won’t tell you what his name is. He wanted a 30x60x12 bookcase made of walnut. We worked out a rough design and ultimately decided not to give it a back in order to open up more options. I provided him with a rough drawing from Sketchup and we went from there.
Initial Sketchup drawing showing the basic dimensions.
With the basic concept down, I moved on to create a more advanced rendering of the piece in order to ensure Mr. REDACTED and I were on the same page.
I prefer using Fusion 360 to model things most of the time specifically because it is capable of creating such beautiful and photo-realistic renderings of furniture pieces.
With all the important decisions made, we committed to a quantity of shelves, (upon which we spared no ink in our lengthy debates over the virtues of four shelves or three, and whether the bottom one counts as a shelf or not) and I got to work in my shop.
I literally just put this image here because I knew you didn’t care to see an exploded view of the design and really just want to see the pretty photos at the bottom. Cheers!
Thank you, Mr. Charles.
